sounds like a lot of fun. Though why does black make 2 moves is that not almost the same as if he went first?

there is always problem with the first player having an advantage ... look at Five in a row, Reversi, Chess, and basically any other game ... even hyper backgammon, when played correctly, is always win for the first player ... the only test is to play lots of games ...
I corrected Cheversi's rules to overcome this problem and now this game has almost equal chances for both players (statistics still shows the old results, though). You are right, it's almost the same as going first, but only almost. As I always say, games evolve over time and some rules are subject to modification. There may be a time that we would have to look closer at the starting sequence of this game. Thanks for your comments. Andy. Comments (3)
You really believe that hyper gammon, if played correctly the first to play should win every game?
That surprises me! Comment (1)
some games are SOLVED, it means played perfectly, and the first player ALWAYS wins ... Othello(Reversi) has been solved, Gomoku (5 in a row) has been solved, same for Hyper Backgammon and probably many others ... I am not mathematician but you have to believe someone, or not ?
Checkers has been solved and played perfectly is always DRAW ... look at these links: http://www.bkgm.com/rgb/rgb.cgi?view+1110 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solved_board_games Regards, Andy. Comments (3)
Hyper Backgammon being played "perfectly" results in a win for player 1??? How can you say that? In the extreme case that player 1 gets 1's and 2's every roll, and player 2 gets double 6's, I don't care how perfect player 1 plays, he/she isn't going to win.
I see your point on the other examples though. But I think you are mistaken about Hyper Back. Comment (1)
I tested FOURMATE on a real board and it plays very well .. here are the latest findings and solutions:
1. Initial setup for both sides should be random for each separately... so it's a departure from Random Fisher setting where like pieces face each other ... 2. Two moves for black has been abolished since it doesn't add anything to the subject of equal chances for both sides ... so, white starts with one move, black follows with one etc ... 3. I keep one interesting opition for later development and it's SWAP version ... exactly like in 5 in a row ... *** regars, Andy. Comments (3)
