Hmm.. I'm curious what the point is of not seeing your opponent's score?
Probably a stupid question, as I don't seem to be that good at the regular game! LOL Comment (1)
The basic reason is to add fun & skill to the game.
In this version UNLESS you are taking note of every mirror shown to you, hence knowing your opponents score you have no clue how you (or they) are doing. The Stars are there as a gamble for you. If you are keeping track of your opponents score, and obviously you know your own, you can take the risk of landing on a Star or not. I thought about this a lot, as in where to draw the line. It could be totally dark without either player seeing anything about his opponent, but we thought we had to try to include some skill as such. Basically, if you do not take notes, you stand little chance of winning. Of course there will be exceptions. Still, the above is only an idea, and any input is welcome to create a more fun & skilful game Comments (3)
I agree with Rod, whats the point of Brainking not keeping the score for us for both players? Not many people want to take the time for notes, and if it is possible to get the score by writing them down yourself, then why not just let the program do it for you? I also dont like games with too much luck involved, so I dont personally understand why you would want to make a game more lucky than it already is, but that is just me.
I like the idea of a smaller board, with fewer numbers and more of a chance to think ahead, and a bit shorter game. Also, I have only finished a few games of the original version so far, and dont think that Fencer should get ahead of himself by offering another version before the first one is worked out pretty well, it seems like a very popular game now, but I think the initial interest will wear off, as people begin to get bored with such a long and mostly pointless opening/middle game. Again, just my personal opinion. Comments (2)
Maybe i have not worded it great.
Players will see there own score, NOT there opponents. At present there is little skill to the game. You could view the board and be lucky enough to see 4 or 5 jumps into the game being all 90+ scores, while your opponent may have nothing. Its like a Dark Chess game, you need to take notes or you stand a good chance of losing. That is the whole point and why people often lose at Dark chess. There is little to do in the original version (as much as i love it), but jump around the board and not really having to worry too much. This is just an idea that can be added to or modified, whatever ideas people come up with Comments (3)
well, I wouldn't agree with you that there is little skill to the original game ... I was once at the very top of all the players winning almost every game and now since I do not have much time to play, (I also lost my initial excitement) my rating went down
significantly ... I can argue that nobody would have a chance with a well programmed computer ... there is one thing that should be changed in the original game ... STARTING position for white and black should be completely up to the players ... any square should be open to start ... even if white takes 99 (or some other 90-ties) black has the power to position himself either to break the white's path by choosing appropriate mirror, blocking the path by his "own body position" or simply choosing his own promising cluster of squares ... Fencer, please consider this change and the game will be more open and equal ... There are two shorter versions Knight 64 and Knights of Fury played on 64 fields ... both of them published here ... I have no opinion on the Dark version until I see it ... LOL Regards, Andy. Comment (1)
Actually, this proposal reminded me of something more general about new, proposed games ... games evolve during thousands and hundreds of years ... we cannot expect new game be perfect. The only test for such a game is the long series of plays. And during these plays new, unexpected features surface that should be taken into consideration ... and instead of creating new versions of new game we should concentrate on polishing and improving the original game. As an example is Cheversi ... or Knight Fight and its starting positions for both players. Let's put our effort into it.

I agree, it has happened that games have been introduced, and later rules changed as the ones there did not work, even up to quite recently and games that have been here a while (e.g. PahTum & Turkish Checkers), and as you mention Cheversi.
The only way good and bad points can really be ironed out is to play, play & play some more..... Like every game, no one forces anyone to play them if they do not like a game for whatever reason. I try any game once or twice, if i do not get on with it i just do not play it, but i would not stop other playing it if they enjoy it. Lets just gather ideas and see what we come up with Comments (3)
At first glance it seems like a blind board would make it even more a game of luck.... thats kind of why I had thought of a smaller board, to give strategy more of a chance... but I disagree that the original is too much luck, I think in the middle it can be more of a try to get the highest number possible, but I try to look at my opponents next big move or two, and sometimes you can foil them by either getting into possition to block them, and that actually puts you in possition for the same tile, or you can get the opposite number (they want 98, so you take the 89) thereby taking their target off the board.
I have had situations where my opponent was set up for two possible good moves and i have been able to play and take both of them away and take a lead and won the game in one move! Comments (2)
I love playing knight fight. I like the idea of this variant, bit more complicated, bit of risk with the stars, sounds good to me.
