I use OpenID in a few places (since not that many sites are OpenID consumers). It's a bit of a chicken-and-egg problem, I suppose, since not many people will sign up with an OpenID provider as long as there are few sites that "consume" OpenID, and not many sites are enticed to become an OpenID consumer as long as there are very few people with an OpenID.
(There's a bit of an asymmetry since some sites which have "adopted" OpenID are only providers, not consumers -- for example, Yahoo users can use their account as an OpenID to log in elsewhere, but people cannot log into Yahoo with an OpenID. If everyone who provided OpenID also consumed it, that would make things a bit easier in some cases.) I have found it especially helpful for commenting on some blogs, where I don't have to create an account especially to comment -- there are so many blogs that require accounts and I don't necessarily want to make many comments on each one so creating an account for each is a barrier. Being able to use OpenID is easier since I don't have to sign up separately for each one. (This one is an example! I would have liked being able to leave this comment with an OpenID, rather than having to sign up just to leave the comment.) I use a password manager which lets me generate random passwords for sites, so I tend to use lots of different passwords, but even so it's a bit tedious to look up the password each time I'm somewhere I haven't been in a long time. If I hadn't got the password manager, I imagine I'd be using the same password everywhere because there are simply too many sites that I have an account on for me to keep track of that many different passwords in my head. So if you introduced OpenID, I think it would be a good idea. Comment (1)
Many thanks for your valuable comment.
I agree it would be a good idea and I will think it over. Comment (1)
